Browsers actively warn visitors when a site lacks a valid certificate, displaying "Not Secure" next to the address bar — a signal that erodes trust instantly, especially on any page collecting personal information. Search engines have also confirmed HTTPS as a ranking signal, so an unsecured site carries an SEO disadvantage too.
Domain Validation (DV) certificates confirm domain ownership only and suit most informational sites. Organization Validation (OV) and Extended Validation (EV) certificates involve deeper identity checks and suit businesses handling sensitive transactions.
