Website Speed and Core Web Vitals

What Core Web Vitals actually measure, and why speed has become a direct ranking and conversion factor.

Website DevelopmentSEO

Core Web Vitals are a set of metrics Google uses to measure real-world user experience on a webpage, focused on loading speed, interactivity, and visual stability.

The three core metrics

  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) — how long the largest visible element takes to load, a proxy for perceived load speed.
  • Interaction to Next Paint (INP) — how quickly the page responds to a user's interaction, such as a tap or click.
  • Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) — how much visible content shifts unexpectedly while the page loads, which can cause misclicks.

Why it affects more than rankings

Beyond its role as a search ranking factor, page speed has a well-documented direct relationship with conversion rates and bounce rates — visitors abandon slow-loading pages before they ever see the content or offer on them.

What most commonly hurts these scores

Oversized, unoptimized images, excessive third-party scripts, poor hosting performance, and render-blocking resources are the most common culprits — which is why hosting quality, covered throughout our Web Hosting section, has such a direct effect on Core Web Vitals.
